With Albuquerque summer temps beginning to increase, it’s that time of year when we’re all looking to stay cool! As an Albuquerque HVAC company, we’ve compiled a list of our top tips for keeping your home cool so that you can focus on your life and not the discomfort of sweating in your own home.

Get Seasonal Air Conditioning Maintenance

While spring has passed, it’s not too late to have maintenance done on your AC. At a maintenance visit, technicians clean all the parts of your AC so that your unit is running optimally. They’ll also replace any parts that are on their last leg so you can prevent a lapse of cooling later on down the road.

Keep Your Windows Closed During the Day and Open at Night

If you love having fresh air in your home, keep those windows open at night and closed during the day. While this might seem like an obvious one, using the cooler temperatures at night to cool your home is a cost-effective method most people don’t think of if they have refrigerated air.

For people with swamp coolers, that’s a different story! They’re already well versed in tricks to keep the home cool since swamp coolers don’t cool homes as well as forced air does. It’s also important to note that if you have a swamp cooler, you do need to leave a window cracked at all times to allow a release in air pressure.

Draw Your Shades During the Day

If you struggle with certain rooms in your house getting particularly hot, it’s helpful to draw the shades to regulate the temperature in those rooms. This tends to be the case with rooms that get a lot of direct sunlight. If you are at home, you may want to enjoy the natural light. But, if you’re not home, draw those shades and save on your cooling bill!

Get a Mini-Split

Many people don’t know about the wonders of mini-splits, but here at Bosque Heating, Cooling & Plumbing, we love them! Mini-splits are a great solution for homes that have a room that you just can’t keep cool enough. A mini-split is a ductless AC that can be installed in just one room to help keep it cool. Give us a call if you want to learn more about getting a mini-split to help regulate the temperature in your home.

Consider an AC Conversion

If you have a swamp cooler, you’re already well aware that it doesn’t always get your home as cool as you want it to be. Swamp cooler conversions (converting to refrigerated air/forced air AC) are common here in Albuquerque since many of our older homes were built with swamp coolers. Your swamp cooler can only get your home about 20 degrees cooler than the outside temperature. So on a 100 degree day, 80 degrees in the home might not cut it. If you’re curious if a swamp cooler conversion would work in your home, give us a call! We can come to check out your ducting and electrical and let you know what it would take to get AC in your home.

There you have it—our top tips for keeping your home cool as the temperatures continue to rise. Some of them are things you can easily do on your own. But, if you do want the help of an Albuquerque AC company to do a swamp cooler conversion, install a mini-split, or just do some routine maintenance on your HVAC system, please give us a call at Bosque Heating, Cooling & Plumbing today!
